Ahmedabad has no shortage of travel agencies. Vastral, Maninagar, Satellite, CG Road — every neighbourhood has a few, and most of them will quote you the same destinations. Choosing between them comes down to a handful of things that never appear in the advertisement.
Here is what to look at when picking a travel agency in Ahmedabad for a group or family holiday.
Start with how you leave the city
Departure logistics decide how the first day feels. Broadly there are three patterns:
- Train from Gandhinagar — overnight to Chandigarh for the Himachal circuits. Comfortable, and the fare tiers change with the class you pick (sleeper non-AC, 3AC or 2AC).
- AC sleeper bus from Ahmedabad — how our Jodhpur and Jaisalmer desert weekend runs. Overnight, straight into the itinerary.
- Land-only — you make your own way to the start point and join there. Cheapest option if you already have flights or family travel plans.
A good agency offers you the choice and prices each one separately, so you can see what the travel component actually costs. On our 8-day Himachal departure, the difference between the Chandigarh land-only fare and the 2AC train fare is about ₹4,500 per person — worth seeing broken out rather than buried.
Look for fare tiers, not a single number
A single headline price usually hides assumptions. Real quotes show tiers: by travel class, by room sharing, and separately for children. Our packages publish adult and child fares side by side for every travel option, with children aged 5 to 10 at a reduced rate.
If a quote gives you one number and nothing else, ask what happens if you add a child, or take triple sharing instead of double. The answer tells you how carefully the trip has been costed.
Check the meal plan against the number of nights
Count the meals against the hotel nights. Eight hotel nights should mean eight breakfasts and eight dinners on a breakfast-and-dinner plan. Lunch is very often excluded on group tours, and that is normal — it just needs to be stated so you can budget for it.
Most Ahmedabad operators default to pure vegetarian food on group departures. If you need Jain meals or have an allergy, say so at booking, not at the hotel.
Ask what happens on the days nothing is planned
Every long itinerary has a transfer day. On our 11-day Full Himachal circuit, Manali to Dalhousie is about 350 km and roughly 12 hours on the road. That is a real day of your holiday, and a decent agency will tell you so upfront rather than describing it as “scenic drive”.
The same honesty applies to conditional days. The snow excursion above Manali depends on permits and weather; the Atal Tunnel is visited only when open. Those caveats belong in the itinerary, not in a conversation after you have paid.
Understand the train ticket reality
For any train-inclusive package from Gujarat, the binding constraint is IRCTC. Reservations open exactly 60 days before travel, no agent holds a quota, and seat allocation is IRCTC’s, not the agency’s. The practical implication is simple: book early. Waiting until three weeks out and then being unhappy about an RAC ticket is a timing problem, not an agency problem.
Confirm the office is real
Visit if you can, especially for a first booking with an agency. An office with staff, a landline and a receipt book behaves differently from an Instagram account. Read the terms that apply when things go wrong
Three documents matter, and all three should be available before you pay: the inclusions and exclusions, the cancellation schedule, and the terms covering itinerary changes and liability. If an agency treats any of those as something to discuss later, that is the signal.
