Two quotes land in your WhatsApp. Same destination, same number of nights, ₹3,000 apart. Which one is better value? You cannot tell from the fare, and that is the whole problem with comparing Morbi travel agencies on price alone.
Here are ten questions that will tell you what the fare will not. Ask all of them, of everyone.
1. Where do I board, and at what time?
If you are in Morbi and the answer is “Ahmedabad”, add four hours and the cost of getting there to that quote. Some operators arrange boarding closer to home; some do not. It is the fastest way to find out whether an agency actually serves Morbi or just advertises there.
2. How many nights, in which towns, and at what hotel category?
“7 nights Himachal” tells you nothing. “2N Shimla, 1N Kullu, 2N Manali, plus 2 train nights” tells you everything — including that the trip is really five hotel nights, not seven.
3. Exactly how many meals?
Count them. “Breakfast and dinner” on an 8-day trip should be five breakfasts and five dinners if there are five hotel nights. If the quote says “all meals” without a number, get a number.
4. What is explicitly excluded?
The exclusions list is more informative than the inclusions list. Typical genuine exclusions are monument entry fees, guide charges, adventure activities, pony rides, snow suits, heater charges, personal expenses, meals on the train, and travel insurance. If an agency has no exclusions list at all, they have not thought it through — or they are hoping you will not ask.
5. AC or non-AC vehicle, and why?
For hill sightseeing the correct answer is non-AC, with a reason: AC is not effective on mountain gradients. For a desert trip to Jaisalmer in October, AC is reasonable. An agency that cannot explain the choice is quoting from a template.
6. What is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
Typically 50% to confirm, balance before the hotel voucher is released. On train-inclusive trips the deposit is needed earlier — around 60 days out, because that is when IRCTC opens reservations.
7. What are the cancellation charges, in writing?
A graded schedule by notice period is the fair standard. Ours: loss of deposit at 30+ days, 50% at 15–29 days, 75% at 7–14 days, 100% inside 7 days or no-show. Ask for it before you pay, not after.
8. Is there a trip leader with the group?
Named, travelling with you, from the boarding point. Not a driver doubling as a guide, and not a phone number in another city.
9. What happens if weather closes the plan?
The honest answer is: the itinerary changes, we make the best alternative arrangement we can, and any extra cost from a natural calamity — landslide, road blockage — is payable by travellers. Anyone promising a guaranteed Rohtang crossing in January is selling something they cannot deliver.
10. Which account am I paying into?
A company account, against a receipt, with details confirmed on a phone call. Never a personal account, never on the strength of a forwarded message alone, and never an OTP.
Putting the checklist to work
Run both quotes through those ten questions and the ₹3,000 gap usually explains itself — a lower hotel category, two fewer included meals, sightseeing moved into “optional”, or a boarding point that costs you a day.
Sometimes the cheaper quote genuinely is better value. The point is that you will know why.
