Matheran is one of the smallest hill stations in India, roughly 90 km from Mumbai and 120 km from Pune. It is one of the very few places in the world where motor vehicles are banned outright — which is exactly what makes it so quiet. Everything is done on foot, and the red mud trails through the forest are half the experience.
The steep cliffs open onto at least 38 viewing points. Panorama Point gives a full 360-degree sweep across the surrounding hills and Neral town, and is the spot for both sunrise and sunset. From Louisa Point you get a clean, uninterrupted view of Prabal Fort. The monsoon brings heavy rain and turns the whole plateau green; winter is cool and pleasant.
This is a group departure with an overnight train from Gujarat, two nights on the hill, and a full trekking day on either Garbett Plateau or Peb Fort.

Good to know
There is no motor transport in Matheran — you walk, or hire a horse or hand cart yourself. Treat this as a backpacking and trekking trip: strictly avoid trolley and duffle bags, and be prepared for long walks. Porters are available at your own cost, and participants remain responsible for their own luggage.
